Around 12:55AM on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, Troopers Matthew McCarthy and Austin Rose were conducting patrol on Westgate Drive in Brockton. While patrolling the parking lot of a Westgate Drive hotel, the Troopers spotted a Ford EcoSport parked in front of the main access to the hotel. Troopers McCarthy and Rose approached the vehicle and engaged the sole occupant of the vehicle in conversation.
Troopers McCarthy and Rose questioned the man about why the vehicle was there and who it belonged to. Trooper McCarthy soon spotted an open folding knife within reach of the man’s left hand. Trooper Rose removed the man, QORIYO ABDIRIZAK, 19, of Portland, Maine and conducted a frisk. A loaded Smith & Wesson .380 caliber pistol was found in ABDIRIZAK’s sweatshirt pocket. ABDIRIZAK does not possess a license to carry a firearm.
Troopers McCarthy and Rose secured the knife and firearm and placed ABDIRIZAK under arrest. QORIYO ABDIRIZAK was advised of his Miranda rights and transported to the SP-Milton Barracks to be booked, fingerprinted, and photographed.
ABDIRIZAK was arraigned in Brockton District Court on charges of:
1. Carrying A Loaded Firearm;
2. Possession Of A Firearm Without A License; and
3. Possession Of Ammunition Without FID.
