Update #1 Provided on Friday 6 December
Shortly after 8 p.m. (Friday 6 December), members of the Troop H Community Action Team deployed a Star Chase tracking device on a vehicle that failed to stop in Boston.
Star Chase technology is currently being piloted by the State Police with the goal of de-escalating and avoiding dangerous pursuits. Guided by a clear policy framework, troopers with proper training deploy the device and use built in location technology to pursue individuals who evade police on the roads and could do further harm in the community.
Troopers located the vehicle on Boston’s Thwing Street, which is a dead end near the Jackson Square Orange Line Station. As the first Trooper on scene approached in his cruiser, the suspect rammed the police cruiser several times with his vehicle, exited, and fled on foot.
Additional State Police and Boston Police responded to secure the scene, and Boston Police deployed a K9. Boston EMS also responded to the scene and transported the Trooper operating the rammed cruiser to a Boston Hospital for evaluation.
The matter remains under investigation by the State Police.
