The operator who suffered fatal injuries in yesterday’s crash on Route 95 in Needham is identified as Dylan Chaves, 31, of Fiskdale. Investigation indicates he was operating a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado pickup southbound on Route 95 at approximately 4:40 AM Tuesday, April 30, 2024, when he lost control of the vehicle, spun into the concrete median barrier, and came to a stop in the left lane, generally perpendicular to the roadway and its driver’s side facing oncoming traffic. Simultaneously, a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup being operated southbound in the left lane by a 54-year-old Nashua, N.H., man was unable to avoid the Chevrolet and struck its driver’s side.
Mr. Chaves was determined to be deceased on scene. The operator of the Dodge was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
At the time of the crash, lighting conditions were dark, it was raining, and the road surface was wet.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing and is being conducted by the State Police-Framingham Barracks and the MSP Troop H Detective Unit, Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and Crime Scene Services Section.

INITIAL RELEASE, TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 2024
At 4:40 AM today (Tuesday, April 30, 2024) Massachusetts State Police Troopers responded to a crash involving two pickup trucks on Route 95 south near Exit 33 in Needham. The crash resulted in fatal injuries to one operator and serious injuries to the other.
Preliminary investigation by the State Police-Framingham Barracks, with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, suggests that one of the pickup trucks went out of control and was perpendicular to oncoming traffic and was then broadsided by the second truck. The operator of the truck that was broadsided was determined by EMTs to be deceased on scene. The operator of the second truck was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. The weather at the time of the crash was rainy and the road surface was wet.
Three of the four southbound lanes were closed for approximately two hours to accommodate the rescue response and investigation.
As of the last update received by the Media Relations Unit, the deceased victim’s next of kin had not yet been notified, thus we are not releasing any personal identifying information about that victim at this time.
