On Friday, November 3, 2023, Trooper Angela Younger came upon a motorist who had run out of gas on Interstate 91 in Holyoke. The driver of the vehicle informed Trooper Younger he was not able to make arrangements with anyone who could assist him or bring him gas.
Trooper Younger asked the driver, JAMAL RAMOS, 25, of Springfield, if he would like assistance from a towing contract service provider. RAMOS agreed and a tow was called for. At that point Trooper Younger asked to see RAMOS’s license. Through conversation it was determined RAMOS did not have a license to operate a motor vehicle. Trooper Younger then confirmed the license status of RAMOS and issued him a citation.
Trooper Younger then performed an inventory of the vehicle RAMOS was driving, in preparation for the tow. RAMOS became very nervous and refused to move away from the vehicle. Trooper Younger ordered RAMOS to remain in the tow truck while she completed her inventory. In the glove box of the vehicle RAMOS was operating Trooper Younger located a loaded Galesi-Brescia handgun. Trooper Younger demanded RAMOS produce a license to carry a firearm, which he could not. With no driver’s license, and no license to carry a firearm RAMOS was placed under arrest.
Trooper Younger transported RAMOS to the Northampton Barracks to be booked, photographed, and fingerprinted.
RAMOS was arraigned at Holyoke District Court on charges of:
1. Unlicensed Operation Of A Motor Vehicle;
2. Unlicensed Possession Of A Firearm; and
3. Possession Of Ammunition Without FID.
