Troopers Thwart Human Trafficking Plot

This month, the Massachusetts State Police commemorate National Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Month. More than 27.6 million people — adults and children — are subjected to human trafficking around the world, including in the United States.

As a state public safety agency, we remain committed to raising awareness of this issue, educating the public about identifying the crime, and taking proactive steps to end this form of modern slavery.

Last month, Troopers in the field disrupted an apparent human trafficking scheme reuniting a 22-year-old, neurodivergent women with her family.

The young woman left her home in southeastern Massachusetts to meet a man she met online. The man asked her to leave her family, board a bus from Boston’s South Station to Hartford, Connecticut, and meet two individuals there who would facilitate her transportation to visit him in Jamaica.

When the woman’s family called the State Police, Troopers rushed to meet the bus that unfortunately left Boston earlier than scheduled. They then searched for, identified, and stopped the bus on the MassPike where they located the woman safe and sound.

If you suspect anyone may be the victim of human trafficking, including forced labor or sex, please report it by calling 911.
