Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash on Riverway in Boston


At approximately 3:45 p.m. today, Troopers assigned to State Police-Boston responded to reports of a single vehicle crash on Riverway at the intersection of Longwood Ave in Boston. Upon the arrival of Troopers, they observed a wheelchair accessible transport van that had crashed into a tree off the side of the roadway. The van was occupied by the operator, a 39-year-old man, and a single passenger, a 71-year-old woman from Somerville, who was secured in a wheelchair at the time of the crash. Both occupants suffered serious injuries during the crash.

Both occupants were transported to Boston area hospitals where the passenger later succumbed to her injuries. The exact cause and circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by Troopers assigned to Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and Troop H Detectives. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the crash.
