State Police Canine Unit Proudly Announces New Graduates

Earlier this month, five canines successfully completed training at the New England State Police Administrators Conference (NESPAC) Patrol and Narcotic Detection School. We'd like to congratulate the canines and their handlers on this tremendous accomplishment.

Four of the five newly-certified canines will begin their service as part of the State Police Canine Unit. They are:

·                     K-9 Copper, the second Plott Hound in State Police service, who trained in tracking and evidence recovery.

·                     K-9s Tango, Aries, and Hondo who completed training in narcotics detection.

We also celebrate K-9 Atlas who completed narcotics detection training for service with the Fitchburg Police Department.

The Massachusetts State Police K-9 Unit serves as a patrol function and assists in locating missing persons, hiding or fleeing suspects, narcotics, firearms, and cadavers, as well as providing support in other tactical and dynamic situations. The canines and their handlers also routinely participate in community events. K-9s live with their trooper-handler and their family, and participate in extensive regular training to practice their special abilities.
