At approximately 11:20 AM yesterday (Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2023) the Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations (STOP) Team, Crisis Negotiation Unit, and other units responded to a residence on Hill Road in Boxborough to assist Boxborough Police with a barricaded, potentially armed suspect.

The male suspect was the subject of an arrest warrant for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault and had made prior statements that he had obtained a firearm.

MSP crisis negotiators made repeated attempts to persuade the suspect to surrender peacefully, but he refused to exit the house. STOP Team Troopers also deployed chemical munitions into the residence but the suspect still refused to come out.

STOP Team Troopers ultimately breached the door, made entry, and took the man into custody without injury to the suspect or police personnel. Custody of the suspect was turned over to local police. No firearm was located on the suspect or in the residence.

Other MSP units that responded to assist were the Drone Unit and patrols from the State Police-Concord Barracks. The scene was cleared at 3:09 PM.
