Cambridge Police, Somerville Police, State Police Work to Arrest Man Wanted for Attempted Kidnapping of a Child

Cambridge - In the early afternoon hours of October 6, Troopers assigned to State Police Troop H Detectives Unit responded to the Museum of Science in Cambridge for a reported attempted kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl. The girl was able to fight off the attacker and seek help from staff members, who then alerted police. The incident took place in the woman’s bathroom, where the suspect was located inside of a stall.

Upon the arrival of State Police, the suspect had fled the area, however, Troopers were able locate camera footage of the man. They observed him sitting in the lobby for an extended period of time prior to entering the woman’s bathroom. Upon securing additional security camera footage, Troopers were able to follow his path and gather useable photos to distribute for notification to other law enforcement personnel.

Through diligent investigation, members of the Cambridge Police Department were able to identify the suspect, leading to his eventual arrest on Tuesday in Somerville by Somervile Police. He has been identified as Yandri Hernandez, 24, of Somerville and was charged with Kidnapping of a Child, Strangulation, and Assault and Battery.
