At approximately 1:45 p.m. today, Troopers assigned to State Police-Westfield responded to reports of a single vehicle crash on Route 90 eastbound at the 50.2 mile marker in Chicopee. The crash resulted in serious injuries to the operator and passenger of that vehicle.
Preliminary investigation reveals that, for reasons unknown at this time, a 2005 Subaru Forester was traveling eastbound when the operator lost control and the vehicle rolled over. The Subaru crossed over the median into the westbound lanes of Route 90. No vehicles traveling westbound were involved in the crash. The operator of the Subaru, a 36-year-old female from Palmer, was seriously injured in the crash. Life-saving efforts were attempted by good Samaritans and emergency personnel on scene, however, she succumbed to her injuries. A juvenile male passenger in the Subaru was transported to Baystate Hospital with serious injuries.
The crash remains actively under investigation by Troop B of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Hampden County State Police Detective Unit, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Troopers were assisted on scene by MassDOT and Chicopee Fire and EMS. No further information is available at this time, please do not contact the barracks directly.
