MSP INVESTIGATING FATAL CRASH ON REVERE BEACH PARKWAY IN REVERE

Update – Operator Identified June 8, 9:50 p.m.

At 9:09 a.m. Tuesday morning, Troopers assigned to the State Police-Revere Barracks responded to a report of a single car crash that had gone down a tree-lined embankment. The crash occurred in the area of 655 Revere Beach Parkway. Troop A Community Action Team Troopers also responded, and MassDOT assisted with traffic control. There were no other cars involved in the crash.

First responders located a 2005 Chevy Cobalt sedan with a Massachusetts registration. While the Chevy was traveling westbound it had drifted into the median knocking over a small tree, then jumped the curb on the other side of the road, gone over a guardrail, and come to rest down a short hill. Cataldo EMS administered CPR and utilized an automated external defibrillator on the operator, Robert Zylbersztajn, 71, of Charlestown. Zylbersztajn is believed to have had a medical emergency while driving and was determined to be deceased. The operator was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The crash resulted in Revere Beach Parkway being closed for approximately 1 hour and twenty minutes. The investigation is being conducted by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County.
