Just before 10 p.m. on Thursday Trooper Ryan Durkin, assigned to State Police-Andover, was on patrol observing traffic on Route 110 in Methuen. While stationary he observed a gray Acura SUV pass his location with a defective headlight. He pulled into traffic and activated his blue lights, signaling the Acura to pull over.
Once the Acura came to a full stop Trooper Durkin approached it and identified the operator as JOSHUA CORTES, 31, of Manchester, N.H. It also revealed he had an active felony warrant for his arrest. Trooper Matthew DeVito then arrived on scene to assist.
CORTES was removed from his vehicle and placed under arrest. Prior to CORTES being placed in the rear of a cruiser Troopers conducted a search of his person located a loaded Taurus .380 firearm. CORTES does not possess a license to carry firearms. He was then transported to the Andover barracks for booking. A bail commissioner was contacted and set bail at $100,000. He was scheduled for arraignment at Lawrence District Court on the following charges and will be brought before a judge pending multiple felony charges on the arrest warrant.
- Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Revoked License;
