Troopers Arrest Man with Narcotics, Firearm

At approximately 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday Trooper Matthew Polinski, assigned to State Police-Millbury, was on patrol traveling on Route 146 southbound in Worcester. At that time he observed a gray Kia Optima traveling to his front with a revoked registration. Trooper Polinski activated his blue lights and initiated a motor vehicle stop.

Once the Kia came to a full stop Trooper Polinski approached the driver’s side to speak with the operator, identified as AMARI RICHARDSON, 30, of Worcester, and gathered his license and registration. He noticed the front seat passenger, identified as JASON BATISTA, 39, of Worcester, was not wearing a seatbelt and gathered his information as well. Trooper Polinski returned to his cruiser to conduct an RMV inquiry of the information provided to him and discovered RICHARDSON had an active warrant for his arrest. He was removed from the Kia and taken into custody.

Trooper Polinski then had BATISTA exit the vehicle in order to conduct a tow inventory prior to it being removed from the scene. During the inventory he located a Glock P80 pistol fully loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition. Neither man is licensed to carry firearms. BATISTA was then placed under arrest as well. Trooper Polinski also located a small amount of illegally possessed narcotics at the scene.

Both men were then transported to the Millbury Barracks for booking. A bail commissioner was contacted as set bail at $5000 for BATISTA and $300 for RICHARDSON. BATISTA was scheduled for arraignment at Worcester District Court on the following charges. RICHARDSON will be brought before a judge on his existing charges behind the warrant.

  1. Possession of a Class B Drug;
  2. Possession of a Class E Drug;
  3. Carrying a Loaded Firearm;
  4. Possession of a Firearm; and
