Two Arrested for Trafficking Heroin and Illegal Possession of a Firearm

Last night at about 8:15 p.m., Trooper Amanda McIntosh, a recent graduate of the 85th Recruit Training Troop and her Field Training Officer, Trooper Michael Leslie, assigned to State Police-Shelburne Falls were on patrol on Interstate 91 North when they observed a black Hyundai Tucson with a Vermont registration commit motor vehicle violations.  

Troopers activated the cruiser emergency lights to stop the Hyundai near the 54.9 mile marker in Bernardston. Prior to stopping troopers saw the driver flick a lit cigarette out the driver’s side window.

Troopers approached the vehicle and identified the male driver as RICHARD BUMP, 32 and his female passenger as ABBIE HARRINGTON, 24, both of Bennington, Vt. As a result of an investigation and search of the vehicle troopers located approximately 930 wax baggies of Heroin, a loaded Sig Sauer .45 firearm with nine rounds of ammunition, two magazine pouches with 18 rounds of .45 ammunition, $2500 in cash and various pieces of narcotics paraphernalia.

BUMP was charged with the following offenses:

1. Trafficking Heroin;

2. Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Law;  

3. Possession of a Firearm in a Felony;

4. Possess / Carry a Forearm;

5. Improper Storage of a Firearm;

6. Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card;

7. Possession of Ammunition without FID Card;

8. Carrying a Loaded Firearm; and

9. Tampering with Evidence of a Crime.

10. Marked Lanes;

11. Speeding; and

12. Cigarette / Match Thrown from Vehicle.

HARRINGTON was charged with the following offenses:

1. Trafficking Heroin;

2. Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Law;  

3. Possession of a Firearm in a Felony;

4. Possess / Carry a Forearm;

5. Improper Storage of a Firearm;

6. Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card;

7. Possession of Ammunition without FID Card;

8. Carrying a Loaded Firearm; and

9. Tampering with Evidence of a Crime.

Both subjects were transported to the Shelburne Falls Barracks where they were booked. A bail commissioner was contacted and set bail for both at $7,500  They were transferred to the Franklin House of Correction pending their arraignment in Greenfield District Court today.
