Troopers Arrest Man Illegally in Possession of a Firearm

Just before midnight on July 4, Trooper Shawn Kelly, a recent graduate of the 85th Recruit Training Troop, and his Field Training Officer Trooper Mark Bartholomew, who are both assigned to State Police-Boston, were on patrol on Massachusetts Ave in Cambridge when they observed red Toyota Prius operating erratically nearly causing a crash.

Trooper Kelly immediately activated his emergency lights and stopped the vehicle. After an investigation on scene, in which Cambridge Police Detectives arrived on scene to assist with, the front seat passenger, identified as CLARCK JEAN, 18, of Cambridge was found to be in possession of a Ruger 9mm pistol. The Ruger was loaded with a round in the chamber and contained a magazine capable of holding fifteen rounds. JEAN is not licensed to carry a firearm.

JEAN was placed under arrest and transported to State Police-Boston where he was booked. A bail commissioner was contacted and set bail at $8040. JEAN was held pending his arraignment at Cambridge District Court on the following offenses:

  1. Possession of a Firearm;
  2. Carrying a Loaded Firearm;
  3. Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device;
  4. Possession of Ammunition without an FID card; and
  5. Possession of Firearm without an FID card.
