Loaded Firearm Seized During Motor Vehicle Stop

This morning, Trooper Sean McGonagle, assigned to State Police–Boston arrested three men for illegally possessing a firearm, among other charges.

At about 2:30 a.m., Trooper McGonagle was on patrol on Massachusetts Avenue in Boston when he observed a Chevy Malibu operating without a headlight.  Trooper McGonagle initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Magazine Street.  Upon stopping the vehicle he noticed four occupants inside and immediately requested backup. Trooper Ralph Dugue responded, as did Trooper Kyle Kilimonis and his K9 Boomah, and members of Boston Police Department.

Trooper McGonagle engaged in conversation with the driver, who refused to properly identify himself but was nonetheless positively identified as ANGELO HERNANDEZ, 42, of Cambridge. HERNANDEZ was found to be driving with a revoked license. Simultaneously, Trooper Dugue approached the passenger side where he observed the rear passenger, MARC SERRANO, 25 of Dorchester, attempting to hide something under the seat. He also observed an open container of alcohol and marijuana paraphernalia. Trooper Dugue asked SERRANO to step out of the vehicle and, in doing so, a loaded Ruger 357 revolver fell from his lap to the ground. Troopers immediately placed SERRANO under arrest.

As a result of an investigation, HERNANDEZ and the front passenger, JEAN ALMONDOVAR-BAEZ, 24, of Revere, were also placed under arrest. All three men were transported to State Police Boston Barracks for booking and later held at State Police Weston pending their arraignment today in Roxbury District Court.
