Illegally Possessed Firearm Seized during Motor Vehicle Stop in Lynn
Just after 6 p.m. last night, Trooper Christopher Kane, assigned to the Revere Barracks, stopped a black BMW on Summer Street in Lynn because the car had no front license plate. The stop led to the driver being arrested for illegally possessing a firearm, among other chargers.
As Trooper Kane conversed with the operator, identified as ALTON PALMER, 23 of Medford, he made observations of aspects of the driver’s behavior. Trooper Kane noted that the driver was repeatedly looking at backpack located on the passenger seat. PALMER was asked to exit the vehicle and sit in the back seat of Trooper Kane’s cruiser.
Trooper Kane searched the vehicle and found a loaded semi-automatic 32 caliber Mauser handgun with three rounds of ammunition. Palmer does not legally possess a Massachusetts license to carry a firearm.
PALMER was placed under arrest and transported to the Revere barracks for booking and held pending his arraignment today in Lynn District Court.
PALMER was charged with the following offenses:
Carrying a Loaded Firearm;
Unlawful Possession of a Firearm;
Unlawful Possession of Ammunition;
Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle;
Number Plate Violation; and
No Inspection Sticker.
