State Police Update Description of SUV Sought in Hit-and-Run that Killed Pedestrian

The Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate the September 16 hit-and-run crash that took the life of pedestrian John E. Gauthier, 50 on Interstate 95 southbound in Attleboro. We are again asking for the public’s help and are releasing updated information regarding the vehicle we want to locate in connection with the investigation.

We have previously released that we are seeking a white Cadillac Escalade sport utility vehicle with  a broken head light. 

Today, based on new information developed by Troopers assigned to the State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County, we are expanding the description of the large sport utility vehicle that we are seeking. The vehicle we wish to locate is possibly a white Chevrolet Suburban or a white Cadillac Escalade ESV (extended version). The vehicle is believed to have, or to have had, damage to its passenger side headlight. 

 A new photo of the actual vehicle we are seeking is included with this update, along with the first photo of the actual vehicle that was initially released. 

The vehicle may be operated a white female, who is believed to be approximately 5’4” tall and about 160 lbs.

The hit-and-run occurred on Monday, September 16 at approximately 9:30 p.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 95, prior to Exit 1, in Attleboro. The victim in the crash, Mr. Gauthier, is believed to have been homeless but also may have had ties to Pawtucket, R.I.

The ongoing investigation into the crash is being led by the State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County with assistance from Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
