Update: State Police Identify Victim of Fatal Crash in Chelmsford on Sunday

UPDATE: The victim of the fatal crash on Route 495 in Chelmsford on Sunday has been identified as Emerson Ortega, 22, of Lawrence.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. No other information is available at this time.

State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Chelmsford

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Troopers from State Police-Concord responded to 911 reports of a single vehicle crash on Route 495 southbound between Exits 33 and 32 in Chelmsford that resulted in the death of the operator and serious injuries to the passenger.

Preliminary investigation indicates the 2012 Chevrolet Captiva drifted off the roadway and crashed. No other vehicles were involved.

Troopers were able to provide aid to the female passenger on scene. She was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital via MedFlight and is in stable condition. The operator of the vehicle, a 22-year-old male from Lawrence, was pronounced deceased on scene.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted on scene by the Office of the Medical Examiner, MassDOT, and Chelmsford Fire and EMS.

The right two travel lanes were closed for an extended time to allow for investigation of the crash scene. All lanes reopened at approximately 4:30 a.m.
