Last evening, at approximately 6:50 p.m., members of the Troop D Community Action Team (D-CAT) were on patrol in the city of Brockton, when one trooper observed a Hyundai Santa Fe traveling on Winthrop Street with the driver, later identified as, LAWRENCE D. UTLEY, 36, of Dorchester, holding his cell phone to his face. The driver appeared to be texting or using his mobile device.
UTLEY was then stopped. As a result of an investigation, UTLEY was found to be in in possession of a loaded Forjas Taurus SA .38 Special revolver. UTLEY is not licensed to possess a firearm, as well as has a suspended driver’s license.
UTLEY was taken into custody and brought to the State Police Middleboro Barracks for booking.
UTLEY was charged with the following:
1. Operate motor vehicle with license suspended/revoked;
2. Improper use – mobile phone;
3. Possess/carry firearm;
4. Carrying a loaded firearm;
5. Firearm violation with prior violent/drug crime;
6. Possession of ammunition without FID card; and
7. Resisting arrest.
UTLEY was held on $2,500 bail until his arraignment in Brockton District Court.
