An early morning crash today on Route 495 in Andover resulted in the death of the operator.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Thomas Hashem indicates that at about 4:40 a.m., a 19-year-old man from Lowell was traveling on Route 495 Northbound, south of Exit 41, in a 2004 Acura TSX when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and crashed in the wood-line. The operator and sole occupant was determined to be deceased at the scene.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
State Police were assisted on scene by Andover Fire and MassDOT. The right travel lane and breakdown lane were closed for more than two hours.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
