State Police arrest VT man for cocaine trafficking in Bernardston

A motor vehicle stop on Route 91 in Bernardston early this morning led to the arrest of a Vermont man for cocaine trafficking.

At about 3:30 a.m., Trooper Blakeley Pottinger, a recent graduate of the 84th RTT, and his Trooper coach, Trooper Michael Leslie, pulled over a 2018 Dodge SUV on Route 91 Northbound in Bernardston for committing numerous marked lanes violations.  The operator, REGINALD JONES, 37, of Barre, Vermont, was unable to provide a registration for the vehicle and could not establish his authorization to operate what he reported to be a rental car.  Upon further investigation, including a consent to search the vehicle, troopers located approximately 42 grams of a substance believed to be crack cocaine, along with other paraphernalia and $2,300.00 in cash inside the vehicle.

JONES was placed under arrest and charged with the following offenses:

  1. Trafficking in cocaine
  2. Marked lanes violation
  3. Registration not in possession

JONES was denied bail and transported to the Greenfield District Court later this morning for arraignment.
