One of the passengers, a 32-year-old man from Fall River was transported to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston for treatment of minor injuries. The other passenger, a 38-year-old man from Cape Coral, Florida, was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for treatment of serious injuries.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation by Trooper Andrew Zeller, Troop H Detectives, troopers assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

UPDATE #1: State Police investigating fatal crash on Storrow Drive in Boston
One occupant of the vehicle suffered fatal injuries and three others suffered serious injuries.
Further investigation into this incident suggests the following.
The rollover occurred on Storrow Drive Eastbound at Clarendon Street, Boston. The vehicle came to rest on Back Street after hitting a building.
The investigation indicates the vehicle was operating on a section of Storrow Drive that was closed as part of the July 4th Esplanade event. Evidence suggests that prior to the crash, the operator drove around barriers at the Charlesgate East On-Ramps to enter the closed portion of Storrow Drive.
The investigation is ongoing. We will provide certain information about the victims later today.
State Police investigating fatal crash on Storrow Drive in Boston
is a preliminary report:
At approximately 1:35 a.m. Massachusetts State Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover that occurred on Back Street (which runs parallel to the eastbound side of Storrow Drive in Boston) near the intersection with Clarendon Street.
Preliminary information from the scene indicates several occupants of the vehicle suffered serious injuries; at least one victim has life-threatening injuries. They were transported to a hospital.
The facts and circumstances of the crash, including the vehicle’s specific route of travel prior to the crash, remain under investigation. Among the factors being investigated by Troopers is whether the vehicle entered a closed-off section of Storrow eastbound and from there entered Back Street. That area of Storrow was closed Thursday night because of the Esplanade concert and fireworks display, which concluded about 2 1/2 hours before the time of the crash.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by patrols and detectives from Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, along with the State Police Collision Analysis Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County.
No further information is being released at this time. –30–
