State Police arrest three on gun charges in Tewksbury

A motor vehicle stop yesterday on Route 495 in Tewksbury led to the arrest of three men on gun charges.

At about 2:15 a.m., Trooper Harold Sousa stopped a 2003 Toyota Sequoia on Route 495 Southbound in Tewksbury for speeding and erratic operation.  During his contact with the occupants, Trooper Sousa observed fireworks inside the vehicle.  Upon seizing the illegally possessed fireworks, some of which were located inside a backpack, the trooper discovered a loaded Rossi .38 Special revolver inside that backpack.  None of the occupants were duly licensed to possess the firearm and it was determined that the firearm was reported to have been stolen out of Davidson County, North Carolina.

The driver, SOVANN YERN, 31, and his two passengers, STEVEN YERN, 28, and SAMART NOU, 32, all from Lowell, were placed under arrest on the following charges:

  1. Possession/Carrying a Firearm
  2. Carrying a Loaded firearm
  3. Possession of Ammunition Without FID Card
  4. Receiving Stolen Property -$1200
  5. Possession of Fireworks

SOVANN YERN was additionally cited for speeding and marked lanes violation.  STEVEN YERN was additionally charged with being intoxicated while carrying a firearm and cited for failure to wear a seatbelt. 

SOVANN YERN and SAMART NOU were held on $2,500.00 bail while STEVEN YERN was held on $5,000.00 bail.  All were arraigned in Lowell District Court today.
