A Norwood man is under arrest for operating under the influence of drugs and racing, among other charges, following a serious crash on Route 95 in Westwood this morning.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Nicholas Keating indicates that at about 5:00 a.m., DAVID HECTOR, 19, of Norwood was traveling on Route 95 Northbound in a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, allegedly racing a 2008 Hyundai Elantra operated by a 19-year-old Dorchester man. As the vehicles were traveling just south of Exit 13 in Westwood, the Hyundai struck a 2001 Suzuki SUV, which was also traveling northbound at the time. Following that collision, the operator of the Hyundai lost control of the vehicle, causing it to rollover and crash. During the rollover, the operator and his 17-year-old female passenger were both ejected from the vehicle.
The operator and passenger of the Hyundai both sustained serious injuries and were transported to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston respectively. The operator of the Suzuki was transported to Faulkner Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
HECTOR was subsequently placed under arrest on the following charges:
- Operating Under the Influence of Drugs
- Racing a Motor Vehicle
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Marked lanes Violation
HECTOR was booked at the State Police barracks in Milton and will be arraigned in Dedham District Court this morning.
State Police were assisted on scene by Westwood and Canton Fire and EMS, and MassDOT.
