Local, State Police Engage in Lengthy Pursuit in Merrimack Valley; Suspect Arrested by Local Police

At approximately 4:30 p.m. State Police Troop A was notified that North Andover Police were pursuing a vehicle on Route 495 northbound in Haverhill. According to information provided to MSP, the same vehicle had been involved in an earlier pursuit with Haverhill Police that was terminated.  North Andover Police advised MSP that the vehicle has attempted to strike a Haverhill officer.

Within several minutes an MSP trooper caught up to the pursuit in the area of Exit 53. Troop A Headquarters established command and control of involved MSP units.

Several minutes later the fleeing suspect, a female, avoided stop stick tire deflation devices prior to the Route 95 interchange. The suspect vehicle exited the highway in Salisbury near the terminus of Route 495 north and entered Main Street. MSP terminated its pursuit and notified local police that the suspect was traveling north on Congress Street toward Amesbury.

The suspect vehicle was reportedly later pursued by Amesbury Police onto Route 495 southbound. The Massachusetts State Police Air Wing provided overflight support of the pursuit, communicating and coordinating directly with Amesbury units. The suspect then exited 495 southbound in Westford, where it was ultimately stopped and the operator taken into custody by local police.
