An early morning crash on Route 202 in Granby resulted in the death of a Belchertown man.
Preliminary investigation by troopers assigned to the Hampshire County District Attorney’s Office and Trooper Thomas Fisk of the State Police-Belchertown Barracks indicates that at about 12:00 a.m., Granby Police received a report of a Nissan Xterra operating erratically in their town. A Granby police officer located the vehicle, which was traveling northbound on Route 202. The Xterra sped away from the officer, passing another vehicle which was also traveling northbound. The operator of the Xterra then lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
The operator and sole occupant, an 18-year-old Belchertown man, was subsequently pronounced deceased.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
