A four-vehicle crash this morning on I-90 Eastbound in Blandford resulted in the death of a New York man.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Steffan Welch indicates that a 54-year-old man from Portsmouth, R.I., was traveling on I-90 Eastbound in a Volvo tandem tractor trailer when, for reasons still under investigation, the man lost control of his vehicle, causing it to crash into a 2010 International tractor trailer which was also traveling eastbound at the time. Two other vehicles, a 2016 Isuzu box truck and a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup, were also struck as they traveled eastbound in that area.
The operator of the Isuzu box truck, Robert Epps, 41, of Bronx, N.Y., was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. The operator of the Volvo, the operator of the International, a 55-year-old man from Buffalo, N.Y., and the operator of the Dodge, a 55-year-old man from Houston, Texas, and his passenger, a 38-year-old woman, also from Houston, Texas, were all transported to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and troopers assigned to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office. Weather and road conditions are believed to have been a factor in this crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
State Police were assisted on scene by Blandford, Hilltown, Lee, and Westford Fire and EMS and MassDOT.
