Crash in Sharon Kills Woman and Dog
January 27, 2019
This afternoon, at approximately 2:23 p.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Foxboro responded to reports of a crash on I-95 northbound, north of Exit 8 in Sharon, at the 17 mile-marker.
Upon arrival, Trooper Shane O’Reilly discovered a two-vehicle crash. Preliminary investigation has revealed that both vehicles, a 2003 Jaguar sedan, driven by a 73-year-old Rockport woman, and a 2017 Volkswagen Passat, driven by a 79-year-old Brewster woman, were traveling northbound on I-95 north of exit 8, when for reasons still under investigation, made contact with each other, causing the Jaguar to lose control and spin across the left two lanes, exiting the highway. The Jaguar traveled down an embankment and struck a tree. The occupants of the vehicle, the driver and her dog, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by troopers from the Foxboro Barracks. Troop H Headquarters, State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), troopers assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, Sharon Police Department, Sharon Fire Department, Sharon Animal Control, Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MADOT) all assisted on scene.
The name of the victim will be released after family notifications have been made.
No further information is currently available. Please do not contact the barracks directly.
