State Police Investigating Fatal Crash Route 24 Fall River

December 13, 2018 – This morning at about 5:10 a.m., troopers from the State Police-Dartmouth Barracks responded to a multi-car crash on Route 24 North by Exit 8 Airport Road in Fall River that resulted in a fatality.

Preliminary investigation indicates a tractor trailer unit pulling a tanker carrying gasoline, for reasons still under investigation, rolled over and struck another vehicle. The operator and sole occupant of the tractor trailer was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The operator of the second vehicle has been injured and transported to Rhode Island Hospital. The severity of those injuries is unknown at this time.

Both directions of Route 24 are closed and all traffic is being diverted onto Airport Road.

Fall River Fire and MassDOT are attempting to contain the undetermined amount of fuel spilt by coating the roadway with foam and sand.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, and Troopers assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

State police are being assisted by Fall River Fire, Police and EMS, Regional Hazmat, Mass DOT and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
