State Police Seek Driver who Fatally Struck Pedestrian in West Boylston

December 9, 2018 At about 2:20 a.m., Troopers from the State Police-Holden Barracks began responding to several reports of a pedestrian in the road on Route 190 northbound in West Boylston. While Troopers were responding another caller reported the pedestrian had been struck.

Preliminary investigation by Sergeant Michael Butler indicates that a 19-year-old Leominster woman was operating a 2008 Infiniti, when for reasons still under investigation, she lost control of her vehicle. The infiniti went off the left side of the road and rolled over into the median. The woman then climbed up 20 feet from the bottom of the median and walked onto Route 190 northbound.

The 19-year-old pedestrian was struck in the right travel lane by an as-yet unknown vehicle traveling northbound. She was then struck again by a 2008 Mazda driven by a 40-year-old Leominster man. The Mazda operator stayed on scene.

The pedestrian was determined to be deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the crash.

The identity of the victim is in the process of being positively determined and will be withheld pending family notification.

The facts and circumstances of the incident, including the identity of the first vehicle that struck the young woman, remains under investigation by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and State Police Detective Unit for Worcester County.

No charges have been filed against the second driver at this time.

Route 190 northbound was shut down at Exit 4 for approximately 3 ½ hours.

State Police were assisted on scene by West Boylston Fire and EMS, Massachusetts Department of Transportation, and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
