UPDATE — State Police Arrest Two for Incident in which Robbery Victim was Dragged by Car, Causing Life-Threatening Injuries

November 18, 2018 — Late Friday night, Massachusetts State Police and Boston Police responded to Gallivan Boulevard in Dorchester where an 18-year-old man had been located on the street with life-threatening injuries. That victim, whom subsequent investigation determined was dragged from a motor vehicle for several blocks at a high speed, remains in critical condition at Boston Medical Center.
Early this morning, as a result of an around-the-clock investigation, State Troopers, with assistance from Boston Police, converged on a house party on Phillips Street in Boston and arrested two men in connection with the incident.
Evidence collected during the investigation indicates that the two suspects were in a vehicle late Friday night and met the 18-year-old victim on Gallivan Boulevard in Dorchester. The investigation indicates the supposed purpose of the meeting was to purchase a smart phone from the victim.
During the interaction between the two men in the car and the victim, who was on foot, the suspects hooked the victim’s arm in the car by closing the car window on the arm, and then drove off at a high rate of speed, dragging the victim alongside the moving car for several city blocks.
Evidence indicates that the suspect vehicle passed through a red light at the intersection with Washington Street and continued to travel away from the initial scene. The victim was located on the ground on Gallivan Boulevard, just prior to Nevada Street, unresponsive with severe injuries.
State Police Troopers from the South Boston Barracks, the Troop H Detective Unit, the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit, the Crime Scene Services Section, and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section responded to the scene, with assistance from Boston Police, Boston Fire, and Boston EMS.
The investigation into the incident continued throughout the day and night on Saturday. As a result of that investigation, Troopers identified the occupants of the vehicle that dragged the victim as DEJON W. BARNES, 18, of Dorchester, and KENNETH R. FORD, 23, of Roxbury.
The investigation led Troopers to a house party on Phillips Street in the west end section of Boston in the early morning hours today. There, they located and arrested both suspects, who were brought to the State Police Barracks in Boston and booked.
State Police have charged both defendants with unarmed robbery at this time. Additional charges are expected to be sought in conjunction with the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office. BARNES and FORD are currently being held at the State Police Barracks in Boston pending arraignment Monday in Dorchester District Court.
The victim’s name is not being released at this time. State Police do not release booking photos.
