UPDATE — Cruiser Struck as Trooper Tries to Block Path of Wrong Way OUI Driver on Rt 91

The defendant in this incident is identified as YEVGENIY Y.  RUDENKO, 31, of West Springfield. The vehicle he was operating was a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

He was held at the barracks overnight and will be arraigned today in Springfield District Court on the following charges: OUI liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, state highway wrong way violation, possession of an open container of alcohol while driving, marked lanes violation, and speeding.

The truck caught on fire after it rolled over. RUDENKO suffered minor injuries to his hands. The location of the rollover, where the incident came to an end, is the 3.6 mile marker on Route 91 south in Longmeadow, near the Springfield line.

Two other motorists were transported to Baystate Medical Center after being involved in crashes caused by RUDENKO: a 33-year-old resident of Florida who was a passenger in a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 22-year-old Enfield, Ct., woman who was driving a 2011 Toyota Corolla were both transported after suffering incapacitating but non-life threatening injuries.

The Trooper whose cruiser was struck was treated at Baystate for minor upper and lower body injuries and was released this morning.
