Fatal Crash Route 91 in Springfield

September 16, 2018 – Early this morning at approximately 1:00 a.m., State Police from the Springfield Barracks responded to a single car crash on Route 91 Southbound at the off ramp from Route 291 Westbound in Springfield that resulted in a fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Matthew Greaney indicates that a 2003 Ford Taurus, being operated by a, 64-year-old woman, of Longmeadow, was traveling on the off ramp from Route 291 Westbound, when for reason still under investigation, her vehicle struck a concrete barrier on the passenger side causing the Taurus to spin out and striking a second concrete barrier on Route 91 Southbound on the passenger side. The woman was ejected and determined deceased at the scene.

Route 91 Southbound was closed at Exit 7 as well as the ramp from Route 291 for approximately 1 ½ hours.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section and Hampden District Attorney’s Office.

State Police were assisted on scene by AMR Ambulance, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and MassDOT.
