September 15, 2018 – Last night at approximately 9:30 p.m., State Police from the Athol barracks responded to a two car crash rollover on Route 2 by the 92.8 mile marker in Westminster that resulted in a fatality.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Ann McDonough indicates that a 2004 Honda Civic, being operated by Craig Dougherty, 58, of Westminster, was traveling east, when for reason still under investigation, his vehicle struck a 2014 Jeep from behind causing the Civic to rollover. Dougherty was ejected and determined deceased at the scene. The operator of the Jeep, a 25-year-old man from Arlington, Texas and his passenger, a 25-year-old man from Haverhill, were transported to Leominster Hospital for treatment of minor injuries they sustained from the crash.
The right travel lane and breakdown lane were closed for approximately 4 hours.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section.
State Police were assisted on scene by Westminster Police and Fire, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and MassDOT.
