Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 08132018 – Crash Kills Spencer Woman in Sturbridge
This morning, at approximately 7:20 a.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Sturbridge responded to reports of a crash on Route 49 at the intersection with Putnam Road in Sturbridge.
Upon arrival, Trooper Scott Shea discovered that a 2008 Buick LaCrosse, driven by a 50-year-old woman from Spencer, was travelling westbound on Putnam Road, came to a stop at the intersection with Route 49, then pulled out, attempting to go southbound on Route 49, directly in front of a tractor-trailer car carrier, driven by a 54-year-old man from Manchester, New Hampshire.
The woman was determined to be deceased at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Sturbridge EMS to Harrington Hospital. Identification of the woman will be released once all notifications have been made.
First responders are still on scene. Route 49 in the area of the crash, is currently closed and detoured for the investigation.
The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by troopers from the Sturbridge Barracks. Troop C Headquarters, State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section (CMVES), Sturbridge Police, Sturbridge Fire Department, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MADOT) all assisted on scene.
