Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 06112018 – State Police Arrest A Man in Weymouth on Gun and Drug Charges

On Sunday, June 10, 2018 at about 7:50 p.m. a Dorchester man was arrested on East Street in Weymouth on gun and drug charges following a motor vehicle stop.

Trooper Matthew Shinney was on patrol when he observed a Chevrolet Malibu commit motor vehicle violations.  Trooper Shinney stopped the vehicle and following a subsequent investigation, determined the passenger, JONATHAN MENA-HERNANDEZ, 31, was in possession of a firearm and substances believed to be cocaine and marijuana.  After MENA-HERNANDEZ was placed under arrest Trooper Shinney located a .380 9mm handgun, with the serial number obliterated, inside the vehicle. MENA-HERNANDEZ does not possess a license to carry a firearm in Massachusetts.

MENA-HERNANDEZ was transported to the State Police Barracks in Norwell where he was booked on the following charges:

  1. Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number
  2. Possession/Carrying a Firearm
  3. Possession of a Firearm without FID card
  4. Store Improperly a Firearm
  5. Possession of Class B Drug
  6. Possession of Class D Drug

MENA-HERNANDEZ was held overnight on $10,000 bail and arraigned in Quincy District Court today.
