Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 05272018 – State Police Investigating Route 2 Fatal Crash in Westminster

This morning at about 2:35 a.m., State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Route 2 Eastbound in Westminster that resulted in the death of the operator.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Benjamin Therrian indicates that a 2007 GMC Yukon was traveling on Route 2 Eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway before crashing into a large rock. After striking the rock the Yukon caught on fire and became fully engulfed.

The operator and sole occupant, who is not being identified at this time, was determined to be deceased at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

State Police were assisted on scene by Westminster Fire and EMS, and Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
