MSP Gang Unit Stop, K9 Search Leads to 800 Grams of Heroin

At approximately 7:15 p.m. yesterday members of the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 2 westbound in Fitchburg that led to two arrests and the recovery of nearly a kilogram of heroin.

During the stop, Gang Unit Troopers observed that the driver, ALVARO ARTURO REYNOSO-MELBURNE, 32, and passenger, WILKINS CUEVAS-DESUS, 34, both of Hartford, appeared extremely nervous. When questioned, the men gave inconsistent statements to Troopers.

State Police K-9 Unit Trooper Alex Berry and his partner, Indy, responded to the scene. Indy conducted a sniff of the vehicle’s exterior and alerted to the front wheel wells. Troopers located approximately 800 grams of suspected heroin hidden in the wheel wells.

REYNOSO-MELBURNE and CUEVAS-DESUS were placed under arrest and transported to the State Police Barracks at Leominster, where they were booked on charges of trafficking a Class A substance.
