Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 03312018 – State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Haverhill
This evening at about 6:00 p.m., one person died and one was seriously injured when their vehicle rolled-over and crashed on Route 495 Northbound, south of Main Street, in Haverhill.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Matthew Routhier indicates that an 18-year-old Methuen woman was traveling northbound in a 2004 Lincoln LS when, for reasons still under investigation, she lost control of the vehicle causing it to rollover and crash. The woman and her passenger were entrapped in the vehicle. An off-duty Methuen firefighter was able to extricate the operator and began emergency medical treatment. Two off-duty state police officers also rendered aid at the scene. The passenger was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Haverhill Fire Department.
The operator and her passenger, a 19-year-old woman, also from Methuen, were both transported by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The operator was subsequently pronounced deceased at Lawrence General Hospital, while the passenger was transported to Tufts Medical Center for further treatment.
This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section.
State Police were assisted on scene by Haverhill Fire and EMS and MassDOT.
The identity of the operator is being withheld pending family notification.
