Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 08092017 – State Police Arrest Two for Heroin and Cocaine Trafficking in Deerfield
Yesterday morning at about 2:10 a.m., a motor vehicle stop on Route 5 at Elm Street in Deerfield led to the arrest of two people for trafficking in heroin and cocaine.
Trooper Anthony Lavigne of the State Police Barracks in Shelburne Falls was monitoring traffic on Route 5 and determined that a black 2004 Ford Explorer was displaying registration plates which belonged on a different vehicle. Trooper Lavigne conducted a motor vehicle stop and, following a subsequent investigation with assistance from Deerfield Police Officer Tyler Hersom and MSP K-9 Trooper Matthew Baird, located 154 grams of a substance believed to be heroin and 54 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine.
The operator, NATHANIEL AIKENS, 31, of Brooklyn, New York, and his passenger JANIQUA WRIGHT, 22, of Richmond, Virginia were placed under arrest on the following charges:
- Trafficking in Heroin
- Trafficking in Cocaine
- Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Laws
- Unlawfully Attaching Plates
WRIGHT was additionally charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Both were held in custody pending their arraignment in Greenfield District Court yesterday.
