Brockton Men Arrested for Gun and Drug Possession

Members of the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit and Brockton Police Detectives arrested two Brockton men after the troopers and detectives recovered a firearm and suspected narcotics following a traffic stop.

Shortly before 7 pm, while members of both agencies were conducted anti-street crime patrols in unmarked vehicles, Brockton detectives observed a dark blue Infiniti sedan cross over the median into oncoming traffic on North Cary Street as it passed other vehicles in front of it at a high rate of speed.

The Brockton officers contacted two MSP Gang Unit troopers who were nearby and provided a description of the vehicle. A short time later the troopers located the Infinit on Provost Street, a location known to the troopers as the site of a past shooting. They conducted a motor vehicle stop.

As the troopers approached the car, they observed the front seat passenger bend forward as if concealing something. Upon talking to that man, identified as FAUSTINO MENDES, 22, of Brockton, the troopers observed he appeared to be very nervous.

Troopers took MENDES out of the car, and then located, in plain sight, a pistol partially sticking out from under the front passenger seat. MENDES was immediately arrested without resistance.

From the vehicle, troopers a black Beretta “ArmiRoma” semi-automatic 7.65 caliber pistol, with a round in the chamber and seven more rounds in the magazine.

Brockton detectives backed up the troopers, and after continued investigation the rear left passenger was also removed from the car. Troopers and detectives observed that this suspect, identified as GILDO CARDOSO, 22, of Brockton, appeared to have something concealed in his pants. A trooper removed the item, which turned out to be a clear plastic bag containing four smaller bags filled with a powder substance believed to be an opioid.

CARDOSO was also placed under arrest. Both suspects were transported to the Brockton Police Department for booking on drug and gun charges.

The operator of the vehicle, a young woman, was issued a citation for traffic violations.
