State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Boston

UPDATE: The operator and fatal victim in the crash has been identified as Estarling Arias, 25 of Everett. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 02122017 – State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Boston

Today at about 4:15 a.m., State Police from the E-4 Tunnels Barracks responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 93 north at Exit 20 in Boston which resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Robert Soldani indicates that a 2012 Nissan Altima was traveling on Route 93 northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck the attenuating barrier between the main roadway and exit 20.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Everett was pronounced dead at the scene.

The only passenger, a 26-year-old man from Somerville was transported by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with minor injuries.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Suffolk Detective Unit, Boston Fire and EMS, Mass DOT, and the medical Examiner’s Office.

There is no additional information available at this time. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
