State Police Investigating Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on the Pike

At approximately 11:55 pm last night Massachusetts State Troopers responded to reports of a crash involving a wrong-way operator on the westbound side of the Mass. Pike in Westborough.

The wrong-way operator, a 28-year-old male from Rutland, Mass., who was traveling eastbound on the westbound side, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

The wrong-way vehicle struck two other vehicles head-on. Four occupants of those vehicles were transported to area hospitals with injuries. I do not have updates on their conditions at this time.

The cause of the wrong-way operation remains under investigation by Troop E of the Massachusetts State Police along with the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

All lanes were reopened at approximately 3:45 am.
