Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 07302016 – State Police Investigating Serious Motorcyle Crash in Springfield

Today at about 6:10 p.m., State Police from the Springfield barracks responded to a motorcycle crash on Route 291 eastbound in Springfield, just east of Route 91, which resulted in serious injuries.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Brian Gonzalez indicates that a 60-year-old Chicopee man was traveling on Route 91 northbound on a 2013 Harley Davidson XL1200.  As he attempted to navigate the ramp to Route 291 eastbound, he struck the Jersey barrier on the left side of the roadway, then struck the right side guardrail and crashed.  A nurse and a paramedic, who were traveling in the area at the time, administered first aid prior to the arrival of EMS.

The motorcycle operator was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment of serious injuries.

This cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section.  No charges have been filed at this time.

State Police were assisted on scene by Springfield Fire and EMS and Mass DOT.
