UPDATE: Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 07062016 – Massachusetts State Police are Investigating Drowning in Waltham
At 6 pm today Waltham Police requested assistance from State Police in locating a missing swimmer in the Stony Brook Basin. State Police Troop H patrols, our Air Wing, and our Underwater Recovery Unit responded.
A search of the water body was initiated by the District 14 regional dive team and and State Police divers. At approximately 7:30 pm divers recovered the deceased victim’s body. State Police and local police detectives have also responded to the scene.
The victim is a 20-year-old Waltham man. His name is not being released tonight.
We have determined that part of the basin in which the swimmer was found lies within Weston and Waltham, the reservoir itself belongs to the city of Cambridge.
The investigation into the facts and circumstances of the drowning remain under investigation by State Police, Waltham Police, Cambridge Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
No further information is being released at this time. We will release more details when appropriate to do so.
Investigation indicates that the victim was swimming at the reservoir with two friends. At approximately 5:30 pm the two others lost sight of their friend. Waltham Police immediately responded to an emergency call and began searching for the victim.
The death investigation will be under the jurisdiction of the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.
No further information is being released by State Police.
