Massachusetts State Police Media Release 11162015 – State Police Arrest Agawam Man After Failing To Stop On RT291 In Springfield

Around 4:10 p.m. this afternoon, Sergeant Michael Baxter of the Massachusetts State Police attempted to stop a Mazda for speeding on Route 291Eastbound in Springfield. The Mazda accelerated and pulled away as they passed Exit 3, Sergeant Baxter deactivated his emergency lights at that time. Sergeant Baxter observed the Mazda take Exit 4. At the bottom of the ramp the Mazda side swiped a Honda and then hit the front bumper of a tractor trailer.

28-year-old CHASE SARDELLA of Agawam and 30-year-old PATRICIA CLOUTIER of West Springfield, fled from the vehicle up the St James ramp. They then turned around heading down the ramp. CLOUTIER jumped off the bridge and ramp overpass landing approximately 30 feet below between the ramps and the railroad tracks below. AMR ambulance was called to the scene and CLOUTIER was transported to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries. SARDELLA was taken into custody and transported to the State Police Barracks in Springfield.

SARDELLA was charged with the following offenses:

  1. Warrant
  2. Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
  3. Failure to stop for police
  4. Two counts of leaving the scene of a property damage accident
  5. Speeding
  6. Fail to stay in marked lanes
  7. Trespassing on State property
  8. Disorderly conduct

SARDELLA will be arraigned in Springfield District Court in the morning

CLOUTIER was charged with the following offense:

  1. Warrant

Also assisting in this were the Massachusetts State Police Troopers from the Springfield Barracks, Massachusetts State Police K-9 and members of the Springfield Police Department and personnel from AMR ambulance.
