Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 03092015 – State Police Investigate Fatal Crash at Warren-Brimfield Town Line
This morning, at approximately 8:40 a.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Charlton responded to reports of a two-vehicle serious injury crash on Interstate 90 (Massachusetts Turnpike) near the 67 mile-marker which is at the Warren and Brimfield town lines. Upon arrival troopers discovered that a 2009 Honda Element had been travelling eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the sport utility vehicle went out of control. The Element crossed over to the westbound side and collided with a tractor-trailer traveling westbound. As a result, the tractor-trailer then crossed over to the eastbound travel lanes.
The driver of the Honda, a 22-year-old woman from Taunton, was ejected from her vehicle. The woman was determined to be deceased as a result of injuries sustained from the crash. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 52-year-old woman from Warren, R.I., was trapped in the tractor-trailer’s cab. After being extricated by firefighters, she was transported by UMass Life Flight medical helicopter to UMass Medical Center (Lake Avenue) in Worcester. Names of the victims are not being released at this time.
The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by troopers from the Charlton Barracks with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section. The Warren, Brimfield, and Palmer Fire Departments, as well as the Massachusetts Department of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and UMass Memorial Life Flight, assisted on scene.
During the initial crash response, all lanes of I-90 were closed in both directions. At approximately 9:59 a.m., the breakdown lane was opened to traffic on the eastbound side. Then at approximately 10:26 a.m., the breakdown lane was opened to traffic on the westbound side.
