Massachusetts State Police Release — 01272015 — Troopers Arrest 2 Operating Stolen Vehicle During Blizzard

At 5:15 p.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Millbury were alerted to a 2008 Toyota SUV which had been stolen out of Lowell. With minimal traffic on Route 495, due to the travel ban in effect for the blizzard, the vehicle was soon spotted by Trooper Greg Doherty as it traveled southbound on Route 495 behind a procession of plows. Trooper Doherty advised the dispatch he was behind the vehicle and as the vehicle entered the town of Hopkinton, Trooper Joel Nunes, Trooper Kurt Bourdon, Trooper Jamie Vitale and Sergeant Robert Ackerman, who were working the area on storm patrol, assisted Trooper Doherty stopping the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old ANDREW J. CORMIER, and the passenger, 22-year-old SHAUN A. JANSON, both of Worcester, were arrested. During the course of the investigation, both men were found to be in possession of a substance believed to be heroin. CORMIER is charged with violating regulations for a state of emergency, possession of class A narcotic, using a motor vehicle without authority, receiving stolen property, and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license. JANSON is charged with possession of class A narcotic, and receiving stolen property.

CORMIER and JANSON will be arraigned Thursday morning at Framingham District Court. No further information is available at this time.
