UPDATE: Massachusetts State Police Media Release–01-18-2015–State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 24 South in Avon

The operator that was killed in the crash has been identified as Winchel Aubourg, a 41-year-old man from Cambridge.

This morning at 3:30 a.m. troopers from the State Police barracks in Milton responded to a report of a two car crash on Route 24 Southbound, one mile prior to Exit 18 in Avon.  Members of the Avon Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service also responded to this scene.  All travel lanes of Rout 24 Southbound were closed to traffic.

Troopers arrived at the crash scene and discovered that the operator of a Dodge Charger had been ejected from the vehicle and sustained life threatening injuries.  That person was transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital and eventually pronounced deceased.

The operator and passenger of the other vehicle involved, a 2007 Chrysler 300, were also transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (C.A.R.S), and Crime Scene Service Section (C.S.S.S.) responded to the crash and processed the scene.

Additionally, members of the Avon Police Department and the Mass. Department of Transportation responded to assist with traffic control at the scene.  Traffic was diverted off Route 24 South at exit 19.  The traffic on Rout 24 in the area of the crash was disrupted until the scene was cleared at around 6:00 a.m.

The name of the deceased individual from this crash is not being released at this time pending the notification of the next of kin.

The medical status of the two others injured in this crash is unknown except to say that their injuries are not life threatening, however their names are not being released at this time pending the outcome of the investigation.

The facts and circumstances surrounding the cause of this crash remain under investigation.  No charges or citations have been issued at this time.
